Do you like RPG's? Do you like Action games? Do you like a game that actually gives you a challenge? Then buy this game right now. Dont wait until its $19.99 used, pay full price. Why? Because its worth it. You'll get more hours of enjoyment out of this per dollar than any other game this year. Give the developers and publishers your business, because they deserve it. Gameplay 10/10 Music 10/10 Graphics 10/10. Go to your local game shop, I bet it either is or was sold out. If this game doesnt win game of the year then its a crime. buy it--NOW!

A lot of reviews for this game say how its a "new, classic style rpg" or stuff like that because of its difficulty. That is not the case. I you want to play a Dungeons and Dragons style RPG such as the ones made by Bioware or Wizards of The Coast, you'll be disappointed.

This is a Japanese game with a western rpg theme. It is really dark all the time and there is not much color variety on the screen. for example most of the game takes place indoors where it is dark.

The version I bought came with a soundtrack CD. I do not think its worth it though since the music is not very good at all.

Still it is a good game if you like deep customization and adrenaline rush when you play your games. Since the game doesn't allow you to save in the middle of the game, you really do get an adrenaline rush when your life is at risk , since, if you die you have to start the area over again.

I purchased this game today. I tried the first level. This game is now up for sale.....
Just this afternoon I had a conversation with a good friend of mine about how much I was looking forward to this game after the glowing reviews. Typically I trust Gamespot and IGN, and then read up on Amazon for confirmation. Across all boards this game was marked as a stellar addition to any PS3 lineup. So on that note, I unwrapped the game, put it in and set back for what I expected to be an epic adventure. The opening movie impressed. As I progressed to the first level I was equally moved by the sound quality in the "Nexus" because of great sound editing (hall effects and crisp clean dialogue). Visually this game is not stunning, but presents a unique artistic environment that serves the context well. Character models are ok (look like characters from a 2008 PS3 release) and backgrounds are well lit although rather linear and congested. Everything has a Terry Brooks fantasy world feel to it, and colors are presented in bold greens, blues and greys. Initially I was impressed...this game seemed like an 8/10 contender from first impressions. Then....the game began:
The Nexus serves as a hub for your soul to travel between different realms. I am not entirely sure of the backstory represented through the 5 or 6 different locations, because none of them begins with any sort of individual narrative. I only know that each has a main boss that is "probably" associated with the content of the level. I say this because....I never got that far. I never got to one boss. I began to play with a Temple Knight. I listened carefully to reviewers and squared off against each opponent as if they were a boss. After advancing through about 5 zombies...I died. I started over...made it to 10 zombies...then died. I started over...made it to 12 zombies...then died. I started over...made it to 6 zombies..then died. Beginning to see a pattern? This game is said to resemble old NES games because, just like them, you basically have to REMEMBER where each and every enemy is located and know how to time your attack or block so they miss. The problem is that the gameplay is NOT this perfect well oiled machine the reviewers have made it out to be. You are able to roll, and block. However, if you swing your weapon and miss, you cannot block. If two enemies attack you at the same time you miss....you die. Rolling works about 50% of the time, because you have to be facing a way where there is space to roll and you cannot be withdrawing from an attack, finishing a block etc. This is NOT God of War. After dying about 80 times I changed my character to the wanderer. His attacks were MUCH faster than the Temple Knight because he had a sword instead of the huge lance/ dynasty warrior weapon. However, the problem is that when you attack you have to be facing in EXACTLY the right direction because he does not have an arcing swing. Therefore if you swing toward the enemy and are off by the slightest amount, he will counter attack. Even if you CAREFULLY do everything you can to work your way up the level, you will inevitably meet that one enemy you miss on the first swing. Chances are...the enemy will then send you alllllllll the way back to the beginning of the level. After all of my time playing..guess where I ended up? At the entrance to Level 1, Soul Count 0. This game is hard. When I say hard..I mean, it is absolutely NO fun hard. I beat Devil May Cry 3 straight through in one go. I've beaten Ninja Gaiden. Those games were "difficult." This game is ludicrously HARD. Case in point...I made it about 10 minutes into the game at one point (the furthest I got) only to have a guy roll a huge ball (ala Indiana Jones) down the stair case at me. The problem here is that your character cannot run fast enough to get away. You have to KNOW the ball will be rolled down the staircase and anticipate it so you can run up to a certain point before running down. Everything respawns in the same place. This whole game is about remembering where every single enemy and trap is located and not messing up at all. Try imaging doing a perfect play through of the hardest game you know...and you'd be on par with this game. Oh..and did I mention that with my Temple Knight his weapon was too large for small hallways? When I swung it to kill an enemy it hit the walls. From time to time I actually felt I was getting the hang of it. Then all of a sudden I would look up and see my health was almost gone. When did I get hit? From the basis of my time played...I will say this about the game. This game does not have the narrative, or depth of any conventional rpg, and does not have the fun factor or refinement of any big action adventure games available for the PS3. This game has only a few levels, but will last for HOURS only because of the difficulty. Does it get positive points for replay value if you have to replay a level 999 times? Something somewhere in other reviews seems to get lost in translation. When other people say "this game is great, but you WILL want to throw your controller at the wall" I only read: You will want to throw your controller at the wall. If you do not believe me...RENT this game. IF you decide to buy it instead..just take a look on ebay first. The 500 or so other people like me who read the reviews all have their copies up for sale as well. Wasting away any of my weekends only to restart the same level 50 times is NOT my idea of fun. Like a challenge? Then save yourself some money and buy a Rubiks Cube!

I have to say the look and feel of the game are good, BUT, the lack of save options means eternal repetition. If you've got bird flu, and are in quarantine for the next few weeks, this game might be for you....if not, you'll find that you're burning hours upon hours for little to no gain. 4-5 stars if these guys had the sense to add a player save function.

This game has really good sound and graphics but development team forgot the #1 rule about gaming... MAKE IT FUN TO PLAY. All you do is die in this game. there isn't much RPG at all. this game has poor function for the RPG genre. this game focuses way too much on perfection and has no save points at all in the game. so if you die you get to start the mission all over and over and over and over and over...Did I mention you get to play it over and over again, which makes the game repeative. I got the game on friday and now I am selling it on Saturday. I really really really hate this game. Don't believe the HYPE about it being an RPG game. Its a pseudo-RPG.
