I started the game thinking “Okay, this should be fun!” although i was horribly mistaken. THIS GAME IS HORRIBLE! As soon as I started, i was confused with the lack of instruction. I began to run out into the woods and eventually died since there was no map. Get this: there is a map but you have to read the manual to discover you have to press O and SELECT. Great…. I found that out half way through the game. I learned also most of the information that they “forgot” to tell you is in the manual.

Also, there are these magic portal things that take you to places when you say a word. wtf! where did it take me. It was very frustrating since there was no explanation of this in the game. I felt so frustrated that I wanted to throw my psp out of the window, but then i thought the best way to take out my anger was by writing a review.

I’m only assuming that it is mandatory to play the first Final Fantasy in order for the second to make sense but I’m not going to pay thirty more bucks for the first one. I bet it is just as confusing. Oh, and i can’t forget the music playing in the background. MUTE YOUR PSP! It is a continuous loop and gives you a headache.

Past the confusion, the gameplay is alright but it does not make up for anything. So please, take my advice and don’t buy this game. I love Role Playing Games (rpg) yet this one I hate. Buy a different rpg, just not this one!

From a lot of the reviews I had read for this game, I was kind of nervous to attempt to play it. The complaints about the change in the leveling system alone were enough to give me second thoughts. However, I bit the bullet, and boy am I glad I did.

First, like the remake of Final Fantasy for the PSP, this game looks great. Yes, it is 2d, but there isn’t anything wrong with 2d games, especially if it is well done, which this is. The members of your party are all unique looking, the enemies were nicely detailed.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the one-off leveling change. I guess, having played a couple of elder scrolls games had helped me wrap my head around the idea that the more your party members use individual weapon types or magic, the more their proficiency in each of these areas increase. Although, I have to admit that the adjustment wasn’t immediate. I’m a player that usually likes to conserve spells and take as little damage as possible. In this game, however, it is essential that you take damage during battle, or else it takes forever to increase your max HP.

One of my biggest complaints about the first game was a lack of character or story development. I was quite pleased with both in FF2. Yes, there are some plot-holes, and some of the characters are a little inconsistent, or hastily thrown together, but this game was definitely a step in the right direction. And, if nothing else, this was the game that introduced Chocobos to the FF series! So, again this game is a must for anyone who is interested in seeing how the Final Fantasy series has progressed over the years.

Pros:

Good Graphics

Excellent Remake of the original NES version

Nice cutscenes

Con’s:

-”Leveling” system is not like other FF games

-”Where to go” can become confusing at times.

-”Random Battles” can be frustrating

-No save-points. Can only save on the map or at a specific point can prove frustrating.

-Abit on the boring side

Nice game to purchase at the used price.

It’s been a while since I played FFII, but this psp remake (or port actually) really does the trick at bringing back memories.

Final Fantasy II it’s a great game, but sadly, it is outdated. I don’t recommend you to try this game unless you know the franchise beforehand since you could be bored easily and also RPG loving is a must before playing the game, if there something you don’t like about the genre “DON’T BUY IT,” this game is old school RPG.
